Ormston House

This 19th-century building on Patrick Street is said to be inspired by the architecture of a Venetian palazzo.
The building was once a self-service supermarket, which was opened in April 1961 by John F. Ormston and promoted as the first store of its kind in the city.
It currently houses Ormston House, a cultural resource centre with a programme which is co-designed with artists and citizens, resulting in community partnerships, multi-annual projects and cultural events that are responsive to Limerick city and its context.
Ormston House partnered with EVA for the 37th edition in 2016, curated by Koyo Kouoh (b. 1967, Cameroon), and the 38th edition in 2018, curated by Inti Guerrero (b. 1983, Colombia).
Murder Machine was a project presented in 2016 as a partnership between Ormston House, EVA and Making Histories Visible. This project was co-curated by Christine Eyene (b. 1970, France) and Mary Conlon (b. 1978, Ireland) and consisted of an interactive display and a series of monthly public interventions around language, text and literature across histories, geographies and political contexts.
In 2018 Ormston House developed a public programme that responded to the theme of the biennial and included screenings, performances, and temporary installations.
