St. Michael’s, Pery Square
- St. Michael’s Church, built in the mid 19th century by the Pain Brothers, is one of two churches in Limerick known as ‘the sinking church’ – the other being the Presbyterian Church on Henry Street.
- The reason it is thought to have sunk slightly over the years is because it was not built on bedrock.
- This site was one of 23 venues for the 31st edition of EVA in 2007, curated by Klaus Ottmann (b. 1964, Germany).
- St. Michael’s Church was one of numerous sites for a project by Miriam Lohan (b. 1975, Ireland) titled Ringing Limerick. On 7 May 2007, between 11:15am and 11:45am, the artist organised 13 churches around Limerick city to ring their bells simultaneously.
- This performance was recorded and available to listen to after the event.
